Q. Can I bring my own firearms to New Zealand?
A. If you hold the equivalent to the NZ firearms licence in your country of origin you can apply for a firearms permit upon arrival in NZ. Simply declare your firearm at the New Zealand customs and they will deliver you to the NZ Police Office in the NZ Airport where you will fill out the details for the permit and pay a $NZ 25 fee. To save time visit Visitors NZ Police Firearms Licence and Permit to Import , print off the permit to import form, fill it out and have it with you when passing through the Auckland or Christchurch International Airports upon arriving in New Zealand.
Q. Can I bring pistols and military style semi automatic rifles into New Zealand?
A. Pistols or any firearm less than 762 millimetres or 30 inches are classed as a pistol by NZ law. Pistols and Military Style Semi Automatic firearms (MSSA) are strictly governed by tight New Zealand regulations. My advice is to leave them at home.
Q. Do I need a firearms licence to hunt in New Zealand?
A. Yes if you intend to hunt in New Zealand by yourself. No if you are being guided or under the direct supervision of a person holding a current New Zeland firearms licence. For further inquires look up the New Zealand Police website.
Q. What calibre rifle should I hunt with in New Zealand?
A. The calibre chosen will depend on the animals you intend to hunt in New Zealand. Because the distance you may be shooting can vary from 20yds to 300 yds we suggest you use a firearm that shoots fast and flat. We recommend the following. (.243, .270, .308, 7mm, 7mm Mag, 7mm-08, 30-06 - we do not recommend anything smaller than the .243) while hunting in New Zealand.
Q. Do you have firearms available to hire in New Zealand?
A. We encourage hunters to bring their own firearms to New Zealand but for those who don't want to carry firearms around New Zealand we do have firearms available to use. These include a Tikka T3 7mm08 and Remington Model 7 .308.
