October saw the opening of trout fishing for a lot of rivers closed for spawning. Rivers are still a bit dirty from winter rain but this has not stopped a few good sized brown and rainbow trout being landed. The best time to fish is during the later Summer months of January to March. With spring finally here after a long cold winter grass is growing and animals are being seen more frequently as they chase the fresh growth. The stag in the top photo was seen with another in a forestry block. Notice the good growth of velvet. He was a big animal and good size for a free range stag. The hind and fawn were caught catching the last rays of the days sun. They were two of about 60 deer seen in that area. An AWESOME free range block with no bookings for 2005.
