G'day from New Zealand

Spring has sprung with blossoms, new born lambs and the sounds of serenading Toms. Turkey hunting is not taken up by many Kiwi outdoor enthusiasts. Combined with good weather and few natural predators turkeys thrive in New Zealand.

I took advantage of this a couple of weeks ago and decide to take my boys out for a Spring hunt. I had seen several birds from the road during my travels and knew just where to go. We spotted the mbo and stalked to within 20 yards of the 14 birds. I watched for a while as 4 toms all fanned out were prancing like models on a cat walk. They eagerly answered my amateur calls to the detriment of their good health. The picture tells the rest of the story.

Turkeys can be shot all year round as there in no season. Other game birds include ducks, pheasants, swans, peacocks and geese. The season for most birds runs from May to August.

Regards

John & Andrea
